Round 9 – 1/02/2024

Round 9 was the DAC PowerPlay, though this didn’t work out quite as planned.   In the previous round 8, our team scored much better and finished second. However, in round 9, DAC scoring was down somewhat, furthermore, some other teams also employed their PowerPlays and benefitted from the end of school holidays.  With Collingwood winning the round and employing their PowerPlay, they moved into third spot on the ladder.  Doncaster were fifth in round 9 and take up fourth on the ladder.  We are firmly established in Division 2 and will remain there for next season 2025/2026.

All these stats aside, DAC athletes turned out in good numbers and did very well to cope with the oppressive heat.  As the Victorian Championships approach, many athletes were nearing their best form of the season.   There was a great trade in icy poles at the canteen!  Then, at the end of a long day, athletes came together for the 4 x 200m relays, all winning their divisions.

Thank you sincerely to those who volunteered as Club Helpers.  Furthermore, a huge shout to those who ‘backed up’ as officials after the High Velocity/Rare Air Meet on Thursday evening.

Eliza Chivers was again our top scorer this round on 1,097, ahead of Lewis, Hamish and Campbell McLennan, scoring 1,082, 984 and 946, respectively. Darryl Kilmartin was close behind on 941.

Jamison Harding was our top individual scorer with 515 for her 100 hurdles. Chloe Baldock and Harry Maddocks scored 485 and 464 for their 1500 metres.  Harper Harding powered through her 80 metres hurdles for 456 points.

Congratulations to the following athletes who have established new Club Records:

Laura McLennan 40+: Hammer throw – 26.91m (1/2/2025, AVSL Round 9)

Harper Harding U13; 200m hurdles (28.9, -0.9 wind) at the High Velocity meet on 30 January and 100m (12.72, -0.5 wind), at the Country Championships in Bendigo.

Tom Reynolds (Open) 400m – 45.56 sec, and 2nd place in the ACT Open Championships (27/01/2025).

Reminders – Competition Entries

Entries have now closed for weekend 1 the Victorian Championships.  Weekend 2 entries close on 10th February.

The final AVSL Round 10, is scheduled for Aberfeldie or Casey, and entries close this Wednesday 5th February at midday!   Best wishes to All competing as the season draws to a close.
