Doncaster Newsletter
The tenth round of Shield saw Doncaster return to their home track and this was reflected in increased numbers. Men’s 40+ and Under 14, and Women’s Open, Under 18 and Under 14 scored their highest points for the season. Unfortunately, with a High Velocity meeting the night before, some of the sprinters skipped the individual events, though they did come to support the club in the relays. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who assisted with setup, pack up and our club helper duty at Javelin, the officials were very complimentary about how the venue was ready and presentable an hour before competition commenced and how smoothly the competition was run with the club being able to supply a sufficient amount of helpers throughout the day.
Congratulations to Conrad Coumaros and Liam Procaccino on breaking the 48 second barrier in the 400 metres at the High Velocity meeting. Also to Kai Sapolu for breaking the club record in the Under 14 200 metre hurdles for the second week in a row.
We can now say with certainty that the Open Women have qualified for Shield Final, this is an amazing achievement given that six weeks ago the team was in fourth place and didn’t look like qualifying so to make it is a testament to the quality performances that the team members have achieved. And after a massive number of entries and some stellar performances the Under 18 Women have opened up a four point gap between them and Collingwood for the final place at Shield Final, with one more massive showing at Knox in two weeks’ time we are very confident that the team can lock in qualification for the final.
