Doncaster Newsletter
AVSL Round 1 – 13/11/2021
It’s been some time coming, but AVSL returned to Doncaster on Saturday. Having won the Premiership last season, Doncaster did credibly to finish third on the day, which is a good start to our championship defence.
There is no Red Zone this year, just Zone A and B, and the country zones, so there are more teams in Zone A including Essendon, Melbourne University and Keilor St Bernard’s. Our Under 18 Men’s team excelled, coming top of the state! A wonderful effort. The Under 16 Women were second in the state, so it was a great first up effort.
Special congratulations to evergreen Jim Poulter, now 80 years young, who broke the Victorian Record in the Pole Vault for his age group. His 1.75m isn’t far from the Australian record of 1.90m, and it’s only the start of the season. Other notable performances include Peter Holland running a five second PB and three second Under 18 national qualifier in the 800m and Thomas Reynolds breaking 49 seconds for the first time in the 400m.
We also would like to say welcome to the following new members who made their DAC debut: Josh Ascar, Allegria Basile, Chris Butterworth, Zoe Cowlishaw, Jack Dalton, Zahara Dvir, Lucy Jordan, Alex Lloyd, Hayden Lloyd, Hamish McLennan, Lewis McLennan, Mollie McNamara, Ryan O’Neil-Parker, Lili Pertzel, Lydia Rinaudo, Selma Roth, Luca Scholes-Robertson, Victoria Stiliadis and Alanna Turner.
Finally, a big thank you to the following families who assisted with setup, pack up, our club helper duties and lap scoring: Allen, Butterworth, Christy, Ford, Gallagher, Glover, Grace, Kilmartin, Lyness, McLennan, Menezes, O’Connor, Parrott, Peak, Reynolds, Rinaudo, Scholes-Robertson and Watson. Thanks to your time and efforts, the program ran smoothly and without delay.
Round 2 is being held at Aberfeldie and Casey this Saturday. Entries close at midday this Wednesday, so make sure you enter asap!
Working Bee: Thank you!
We wish to extend our sincere thanks to the following members who helped at our working bee on Saturday the 5th: Alessia Wynne, Brock Goodings, Graham Ford, Andy Parrott, David Vaughn, Darryl Kilmartin, Allan Watson, Phil Allen, Peter Ruff, David Mitchell, Matt Christy, Paul Mierisch and Nicole Reynolds and her partner
Thanks to your time and efforts, the track looked fantastic for interclub on the weekend and at club training during the week.
Registration correction:
In a previous email, we advised the junior registration fee was $215, this is incorrect.
A base junior membership is $235 ($100 DAC fee and $135 AV fee). Under 14 and 16 athletes who are also registered with a Little Athletics club for the 2021/22 season are eligible to have the $100 DAC fee reimbursed.
We also wish to clarify the $15 fee for entering an individual round of AVSL has been increased by AV to $25 per round. This fee is only charged if athletes have not purchased the optional AVSL Package, which is $115.
We apologise for these mistakes.
If you have any queries or are having difficulties with registration, please contact our registrar David Mitchell (registrar@doncasterac.org.au)
Seeking: Uniform co-ordinator
We are seeking a member or parent who is able to take on the role of uniform co-ordinator.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting new and returning members with enquiries about uniform
- Assist members with trying on and purchasing uniform
- Work alongside committee to ensure sufficient amount of stock is available and co-ordinating ordering of new stock
If you feel this is something you can assist us with, please email Campbell McLennan (president@doncasterac.org.au) to express your interest.
Entries across separate AVSL venues:
We would like to ask athletes to please refrain from entering events across two venues unless you can make it to both venues for your events.
When start lists are published, the heats are already pre-seeded and athletes not turning up at one venue to compete at another venue results in empty lanes and half-empty heats. This impacts the quality of competition and delays the program with officials calling out for athletes who are otherwise absent.
Please consult the timetable and avoid entering events at both venues if you are unable to commit to them.
Also, AV have ruled that athletes competing in Pole Vault must register in their club zone allocation, which for DAC is Zone A. Athletes who register and compete in Pole Vault at Zone B will be listed as invitation and will not score points, nor will their performance count towards eligibility for the AVSL Final.
Athletes to finish top 10 in the state over all age groups in Premier division were:
100m: Anthony Jordon (1st) Matthew Parrott (6th) Alessia Wynne (9th)
400m: Thomas Reynolds (2nd) Jochem Bowler (10th) Lachlan Reynolds (11th)
800m: Peter Holland (1st) Lachlan Marasco (5th) Will Katic (6th) Josh Ascar (9th)

3000m: Luke Sinn (1st) Caleb Sinn (3rd) John Portwood (4th) Luca Scholes-Robertson (7th)

1500m walk: Lula Parrott (9th)

Those to top the lists in Zone A include:
MOP: 5000m Alastair Christy

M20: 800m Oscar Oconnor, Long Jump & Discus Patrick Ward
M18: 100m Anthony Jordan, 400m Thomas Reynolds, 800m Peter Holland, Long Jump Matthew Parrott
M16: 400m Lachlan Reynolds, 800m Lachlan Marasco, Shot Put Brodie Mierisch

W18: 800m Rosie Lyness
W16: High Jump Eliza Chivers, Pole Vault Tahlia Grace, Javelin Rachel White, Discus Jasmine Smith
W14: 80m hurdles Jamison Harding, 1500m Walk Lula Parrott
There were four athletes scoring more than 500 points for an event this week. Peter Holland top scored with an impressive 531 for his 800 metres, with Thomas Reynolds (400 metres) and Alastair Christy (5000 metres) on 518 and Luke Sinn on 513 for his 3000 metres. His brother, Caleb, was just behind on 499 with John Portwood on 497.
Brodie Mierisch was our top scoring athlete, with 1303 from his three events, just ahead of his father, Paul, who scored 1277. David Firth came in next on 1179 and then Rachael White, 1160, Campbell McLennan, 1099, Eliza Chivers, 1090, Liam McLennan, 1084 and Tahlia Grace on 1030. That’s a lot of athletes scoring more than 1000 points for the club.
Thanks to all those who helped as officials and team managers.
