Round 4 of the Victorian Shield Competition was at Doncaster Athletics Track; the final meeting at the venue before it will be torn up and resurfaced over the coming months. Keen to make the most of this final opportunity to compete on our home track, the Doncaster athletes found a little something extra throughout the day.
Starting with the sprints; it was Bree Walker, Sarah Fitt, Marcus Jones, Chris Ghersi and Andrew Ney running well in their respective age groups to finish highly on the 200m results. In the hurdles, Ghersi and Ney backed up well to win their events with Alex DiMedio running the fastest time of the day.
In the double lap affair, Ed Vining lead the Doncaster onslaught with Nick Finch, Benjamin Ashkettle, Campbell Mclennan and David Firth all in the top 10 results for the Open mens event. In the womans event, Bree Walker continued her fine form winning the Opens age group in a time of 2:20.8, with Ashlee Walburg and Charlotte Bassett both coming second in their respective age groups.
Doncaster continued its dominance in the relay events, winning every single race which it had teams representing. With both the mens and womans teams both qualifying for the State 4x400m finals; which will be held at the Zatopek:10 event on the 12th of December, the team is confident on some strong results.
In the field; Chow Lui and Stephanie Ratcliffe were the winners in their age groups with giant leaps in the Triple Jump earning them maximum points in the team standings. Ratcliffe showed that she can also throw winning the U/14 girls shotput and hammer events. Alice Evans showed similar traits winning the Pole Vault and Hammer throw for the U/18 girls with Ryan Young and James Joycey producing monster throws to win their respective hammer events.
Congratulations to all that competed, Round 5 will be on the 14th of December at Meadowglen Athletics Track.
