Round 10 – 3/02/2024
AVSL returned to Doncaster for round 10, and, with our PowerPlay in place, DAC athletes responded. We finished fourth, which is our best result for the season, and we will certainly avoid any chance of relegation. Special mention should be made of Alessia Wynne, who rushed over from Murrumbeena to run in the relay at Doncaster. And that for a 4×400 relay! Actually, there were a number of other athletes who visited both venues to maximise their points contribution to our POWERPLAY! Doncaster fielded a total of 5 relay teams which was a fantastic effort – athletes squeezing every bit of out themselves to finish a very tough day. The day was very hot – many of us not acclimatised to 34 degrees this summer. The 5000m walkers and the 3000m/5000m runners worked exceptionally hard. However, take your hat off to every contribution made on the day – volunteers, parents, athletes, officials, and supporters! An awesome day for DAC!
It was the juniors who led the way with the Women’s under 14 team topping the state. The men’s under 16 were 3rd with the Men’s under 14 fourth. The over 40 teams weren’t far behind.
Athletes to finish top in the state in the different age groups were:

For a change it was the juniors leading the way, with Chloe Baldock (U14) scoring 531 for her 800 metres and Emily McKinley (also U14) 519 and 514 for her Javelin and Shot Put. Behind them, Jameson Harding (U16) scored 505 and 497 for her hurdles and pole vault with Christian Zapris (U16) 495 for his 400 metres. A number of athletes were close behind in the 480s.
Emily McKinley was our most valuable athlete with 1,519 points, which was second in the state. Alessia Wynne wasn’t far behind with 1,470, sixth in the state, and we had multiple athletes scoring more than 1,000 points: Allegria Basile, David Firth, April Costa, David Vaughan, Joel Denny, Hamish McLennan, Lewis McLennan, Kim Peak, Madeleine Kearney, Laura McLennan and Jamison Harding.
Thank you to our many volunteers who contributed to a very successful day for Doncaster: Darryl Kilmartin, Allan Watson, Andrew Parrott, Wendy Smith, Vanessa Botha, Kath Gawthorn, Kim Peak, David Mitchell, Matt Christie, Sonia Flynn, Alessia Wynne, Tim Denny, Deb Garden, Tim Maddocks, Tim McKinley, Nathan Down, Ant Gottlieb, David Vaughan, John Portwood, and Campbell McLennan! This includes some great photos being taken for our Facebook page; in fact, we’ve enjoyed seeing ourselves in action all season! A real team effort and Thank You All!

Victorian Country T+F Championships – Congratulations!
A number of DAC athletes travelled to Ballarat for the Championships 26th – 28th January. As ‘city folk’ they were ineligible for medals, however, some creditable performances and yet another ‘stepping stone’ as they prepared for the business end of the summer season and for round 10.
