Victorian Relay Championships – 26/11/2022
Another exciting Victorian Relay Championships saw Doncaster claim 1 gold, 8 silver and 3 bronze medals. Most of our medals were won by the 40+ and 50+ teams, with our Junior and Open teams also putting in strong performances. The Open Men’s 4 x 400m team, while very young, have qualified for the final for the thirteenth consecutive year! The final will be held on Thursday 15th of December at Lakeside Stadium in conjunction with the Zatopek competition.
It was a great effort from all who participated. We would also like to thank Tim Denny and Colleen Kelly for their assistance with our club helper duty at the 4x100m changeover.
Notable team performances included:
- Our Under 18 Women’s 4x800m A team continuing our recent medal winning trend by winning silver in a tight race, this is the eighth consecutive year our U18 Women have medalled in this event, while we were able to enter a second team for the first time and they finished a highly credible sixth
- The Under 16 Men’s Medley team of Max McCool, Felix Hattwich, Christian Zapris and Aiden Marasco edging Keilor St Bernard’s by half a second to win bronze
- And the Open Women’s Medley team claimed a surprise silver medal, a fantastic effort from the team of Alessia Wynne, Liv Ryan, Alessandra Flynn and Rachel White who are 19, 21, 18 and 15 years old respectively.
Round 6 of AVSL is back at Doncaster this coming Saturday the 3rd! Entries close midday this Wednesday so make sure to register asap to avoid missing out! For more information, please visit the AVSL Round 6 page.
We also wish to give a special mention to Shakira Harding who lowered her own club record in the Under 16 80m Hurdles at the High Velocity competition at Doncaster last Thursday. Shakira took .06 seconds off her own club record she set earlier this month at the Vic All-Schools Championships!
Save the Date! DAC Christmas Party – Tuesday 13th of December, Tom Kelly Athletics Track
All members and their families are invited to attend our annual DAC Christmas Party which returns to our newly resurfaced track!
The night is always filled with fun and enjoyment and we will be contesting our annual club handicap events:
Peter Ruff 100m handicap for Men and Women
Tom Kelly 800m handicap for Women
Ivan Harding 800m handicap for Men
Adam Roberton Javelin handicap for Men and Women
Please arrive at the track from 5:45pm for a 6pm start.
The club will also be putting on a BBQ, men please bring a salad, women please bring a dessert.
After dinner we will contest our usual Christmas party games of the egg toss, three-legged race and the infamous (yet prestigious) musical chairs.
Please save the date and join us for what is always a fun, light-hearted way to celebrate the festive season as a club.
Tom Kelly Christmas Eve Stations session – Saturday 24th of December
For the last nine years since Tom Kelly’s passing, this session has been held to remember the time and energy he poured into this club.
A favourite of Tom’s, the session can be completed by anyone regardless of age, ability or fitness level. The session starts off with a lap around the oval for the first rep (approx. 400m) with each rep following (10 in total) becoming shorter in distance with the final rep distance being 100m.
When: Saturday 24th of December (Christmas Eve)
Where: Schramms Reserve, JJ Tully Drive, Doncaster (the football ovals behind the Manningham City Council chambers on Doncaster Road)
Time: 7:45am for an 8:15am start, meet at the front of the pavilion overlooking the top oval.
