Masters Inter-Venue Challenge
On Sunday Doncaster Masters hosted the Masters Inter-Venue Challenge. This was a competition between the various Masters venues organised by Graham Ford, and, for the third year in a row, Doncaster finished on top. The day started well with Shirley Coppock breaking the Australian record for the 60 metres! Graham Ford then managed to win his 60 metres by 0.02!
The event which epitomised the feeling of the day was the M40 300 metres. Jameson Perrine was leading for Doncaster when he over-balanced and fell to the track a few metres from the finish. Peter Gero from Collingwood, then stopped to help him across the finish line, losing a place in the process.
Jameson hadn’t been allocated a spot in the Doncaster relay team, and then repaid the favour by leading the first leg (the 800 metres) for Collingwood.
Selma Roth and Campbell McLennan both excelled in the 3000 metres and Campbell backed it up by running a 200 metres in the medley relay. A great time had by all. Particular thanks to Paul Reynolds from Little Athletics, who organised and operated the photo finish equipment, and Emma Peak, who came along to watch her mum and ended up helping all day.
