There was a disappointing turnout for the sixth round of Shield competition at Meadowglen and Casey Fields. Not just from Doncaster, but from most clubs. Nunawading again won and the first three teams scored approximately the same as the previous round, but moved to the top of the table because the other teams were well below strength. Doncaster scored almost 10,000 points less than last time as did other clubs. The result of this is that Doncaster has slipped down the ladder to third and are in danger of missing Shield Final.
The reason was partly the distance, but also some athletes preferred to compete at the Twilight Meet two days before. There were many good performances by Doncaster athletes, particularly Conrad Coumaros winning the 400 metres and breaking the 48 second barrier.
At Shield the largest contingent was the M40 team, though they were unable to match Diamond Valley and Collingwood this week. Doncaster still won the M16, but M14 was beaten by Preston for the first time. Special mention should be made of Owen Rice, who scored over 500 points in the hammer throw and wasn’t far off in the shot.
Two athletes topped the state in Division 2: Campbell McLennan (1500 metres) and Brodie Mierisch (Javelin). Athletes to top the state in their age groups included Jordan Munyard (M20 100 metres), Lachlan Parrott (M18 Long Jump), Brodie Mierisch (M14 Javelin & Discus) and Sisley Rosano (F16 400 metres).
The next shield competition will be a twilight meet at Doncaster on Friday December 13. This will be the Nitro round, the track events being 60 metres, 600 metres, one mile and two relays with Shot Put, Javelin, Long Jump and High Jump on offer in the field. Pre-entries open tomorrow (Tuesday 3/12) so remember to register early if you want a spot in the field events. Please come and support your club at our track!
National All-Schools
Due to the Australian All-Schools T&F Championships in Perth, there is no AVSL competition this weekend. However, we wish the best of luck to the following DAC athletes who are competing at the championships:
Abbey Gartlan: Under 16 Para Discus and Shot Put
Alissa Ramsdale: Under 18 1500m
Owen Rice: Under 16 Discus, Shot Put and Hammer Throw
Hannah Williams: Under 18 3000m
DAC in the Bangkok Marathon:
On Sunday 17th of November, Anthony Paige competed in the 10.5km event of the Bangkok Marathon placing 19th overall in 42 minutes. Due to the hot and humid conditions during the day, the event was held at 4am local time with the temperature a balmy 22 degrees! Congratulations to Anthony on this fantastic achievement.
DAC Christmas Party
Don’t forget our annual Christmas Party and Club Handicaps at the track on Tuesday the 19th!
We would love to see all members and their families at the track for what is always a fun, entertaining evening of racing and games. Entries for the club handicap events (100m, 800m and Javelin) will be taken on the day with members of all ages and abilities encouraged to have a go.
DAC Trivia Night
We are excited to announce that the DAC Trivia Night will be returning in 2020!
Make sure you bring your family and friends to what is a big fundraiser for the club with a silent auction and games there are plenty of opportunities for you to win while contributing to the club!
