2018-12-01 Shield Round 7

Doncaster Newsletter

The seventh round of Shield competition saw Doncaster start to make an impact on the track. For the first time the M40+ team had a win over an undermanned Diamond Valley and the men’s open team had another win over Collingwood, entirely due to the sprinters. It was exciting to have four sub 50 second 400 metre performances. Things are looking good for the 4 x 400 team at Zatopek next week. The under 14 team continue to dominate while the under 16’s and 18’s are maintaining second and third positions in in their respective ladders.

For the second competition in a row the women’s open team finished in second position and if they continue this, they could qualify for Shield Final. Unfortunately there were no women competing in the under 20 team this week, the under 18’s were under strength but still hold second place in their ladder while the Under 14’s are still in third place, six points behind Preston.

Due to the Australian All-Schools Championships there will be no competition this coming weekend, the week after is a big one for the club with our Open Men, Women and Mixed 4x400m teams contesting their finals at Zatopek on Thursday 13th at Lakeside Stadium where we are also likely to see some of our up and coming juniors compete in other races that night. Interclub resumes with a Friday twilight competition at Lakeside Stadium on the 14th and we are hosing the day after on the 15th where we hope to see a massive turnout from as many DAC athletes as possible.

Also our annual DAC Christmas Party & Club Handicaps event is being held at the track on Tuesday 18th. We ask that members arrive around 5:45pm for a 6pm start to our handicap events which will run from 6pm-7pm.
The club will be putting on a BBQ where Men are asked to bring a salad and Women please bring a dessert. After dinner we will be having Christmas games including the Egg Toss, Three Legged Race and Musical Chairs. All members and their families are welcome to what is always a fun, relaxing and entertaining night.
